Few Scottish cities can claim to be at the center of national history like Stirling. The location of this royal burgh, at the crossroads of the country's roads, makes it a primordial stronghold, between Edinburgh and the Highlands. During the wars of independence, two decisive battles took place there: Stirling Bridge (1297) and Bannockburn (1304). The castle was the object of many sieges, before becoming a privileged palace of the Stuarts. The religious conflicts of the War of the Three Kingdoms and the Jacobite uprisings did not spare the city, object of many covetousness. Today, its great university and its medieval center make its attractiveness. One can visit the famous Stirling Castle and the church of Holy Rude.
