It is not the village itself that is recommended to visit but its environment. Loch Leven is a national nature reserve, where you can watch birds in peace, and it promises a beautiful escapade. Also located here is Burleigh Castle (Milnathort), a three-story tower house dating back over 500 years, and the fortress of Leven Castle where Mary Stuart was imprisoned for eleven years! She managed to escape by charming the young son of Lady Douglas who stole the keys for her and organized her escape by boat after throwing the keys into the loch... where they were fished out three centuries later!
