Off the Kintyre Peninsula, Gigha is a small, peaceful island where people take time to live. Its long, pristine beaches and turquoise waters have made it famous and people come here mainly to enjoy its isolation and bird colonies. The main attraction is Achamore Gardens, a romantic botanical garden (open daily from morning to dusk, donations welcome). The ruins of Kilchattan Chapel are also worth seeing. Gigha can be reached by taking the ferry from Tayinloan (37 km south of Tarbert). Bicycles are available for rent in the (only) village of the island: Ardminish.
