Galloway Forest Park is the largest forest park in Britain, created in 1947. It covers no less than 800 km2, with one million trees, 250 lochs of all sizes and an exceptional location that earned it the title of Dark Sky Site in 2009, for its absence of light pollution. On a clear night, you can see some 7,000 stars in the sky. Its scenery is exceptional and it is the wild heart of Dumfries & Galloway. High windy hills and deep forests come together in a wonderful way, much to the delight of hikers, mountain bikers and other outdoor sports enthusiasts. A visit to the region would not be complete without exploring this magnificent natural park.
