SAMHUINN FESTIVAL

It's Celtic New Year! Dozens of events, shows, dances, concerts, street theatre, pyrotechnics, are taking place in Old Town on the Royal Mile, as well as on Carlton Hill where the Samhain (or Samhuinn) ceremony will be celebrated. It marks the transition from summer to winter. Artistic performances, music and dance, games with fire, parades are all ways of marking the transition between the seasons, but also between life and death (as Halloween or the Feast of the Dead are also echoes of it).
