A few meters from the Greyfriars Bobby statue, this small Japanese restaurant offers a cuisine that goes far beyond the usual sushi with dishes in sauce and even Japanese curries. Some dishes are served in Bento boxes. A wide variety of sake and even Japanese whisky are on the menu, for a taste that makes you travel. The decoration is zen, just like the service.

La Garrigue is a little bit of Languedoc sunshine in the Edinburgh sky. Fish soups, cassoulets, bouillabaisses, Pézenas pies and rabbit quail are put on your plate here by Jean-Michel Gauffre, an adored chef who arrived in Scotland more than 20 years ago. Gordon Ramsay himself speaks of it as the best French chef in the country and it must be said that it is a success. The purple walls are decorated with works by a Scottish painter and the chairs and tables are the work of an English artist. The staff is entirely French (except for one Monegasque) and the view of Calton Hill is very pleasant. A beautiful establishment where it is better to book.

The Kitchin opened its doors in 2006 and has been winning awards ever since. Tom Kitchin, his starred chef, was a pupil of Alain Ducasse, and his French-inspired dishes are made with the best Scottish local produce. The philosophy of the house is "from nature to the plate", so it's not surprising that the attention paid to the raw material ensures a real culinary epic. The frame is very mineral and combines shades of grey, blue and brown. Menus change according to the seasons.
