Located at the mouth of the Nervión river, Gexto is an upmarket residential area in the northern suburbs of Bilbao, divided into several districts. Since the beginning of the 19th century, Getxo has been inhabited by aristocrats, and one stately home after another. Its location by the sea was an asset that allowed it to develop prosperously. Today, although the proximity of the port detracts from its charm, the town has a pleasant promenade along the sea and in the old port of Algorta, which is very lively on summer evenings. Here you will find a series of eye-catching features, such as the Aixerrota Mill and the old Galea Fort.
