Urdaibai, declared an Area of Ecological Interest by UNESCO, is a refuge for various migratory animals and birds: waders, herons, fishing eagles. In the open spaces you will see finches, owls, eagles. In the pine forests, wild boars, weasels, wild cats, foxes, squirrels... Here you can also find the Santimamiñe caves and the painted forest of Oma. The best way to discover the reserve is to visit it by boat, with a guide. The reserve includes 22 municipalities, 12 of which are included in their totality and therefore protected. The biosphere stretches from Bermeo to Ibarrangelu, from west to east.
