This port of nearly 9,000 inhabitants has kept its ancestral allure. In the 19th century, fishing was the main economic activity (tuna, lobster, hake, sardines...) thanks to a surprisingly diverse fleet for such a small port. The valour of the inhabitants of Ondarroa has been demonstrated throughout history, especially in 1638, when they came to the aid of the town of San Sebastian, which was under siege from the French army, and managed to sink three enemy ships with only thirty men. Some of the architectural landmarks on a visit to the town are the Likona Tower (15th century) and the Santa María Church (1462), a Gothic monument.
