Leaving the sanctuary of Loyola, we can follow the footsteps of Saint Ignatius towards Azkoitia, the saint's maternal cradle. In addition to the medieval tower of Balda, where his mother lived, we can find the Mudejar palace of Floreaga (16th century), the Idiaquez tower and the parish church of Santa María la Real. We will also see the oldest fortified houses in Gipuzkoa, such as the Insausti house, where the "Little Knights of Azkoitia" sat, named after a group of 18th century noblemen who founded the Royal Society of Friends of the Basque Country. In Azkoitia, you can also visit the hermitage of San Martin, which houses an exhibition on the history of the town.
