Travel Guide Svirstroy (Сgu Ирьстрой)

At km 1 087, shortly after the Mondraga and Sara rivers joined the Svir, the village of Svirstroy took place on the left bank of the Svir River, slightly upstream of the so-called Lower Svir lock. The workers who built the lock lived here in stone or wooden houses. Stopping at Svirstroy allows you to immerse yourself in the village life of the region, to discover these typical houses, but especially the local population used to receive tourists. Some will be embarrassed by the voyeuristic aspect that this can represent, but the villagers welcome the passing travelers in their interior with great warmth and offer them small cakes and tea. Each one tells his story, one was the wife of an aviator, the other the wife of an engineer, a man took part in the construction of the lock... but there are also young people who do not hesitate to engage in conversation. Even if it's a little organized and moneyed, it's a nice meeting with authentic people. Near the landing stage, craftsmen work during the summer and allow you to discover the secular Russian work: wood, laces, paintings... The smoked fish sold smells strong and may poison your whole refrigerator, but it is particularly tasty. Finally, the more courageous will take a leap into the lake where families swim or go deep into the undergrowth in search of mushrooms. A real breath of fresh air before arriving in St. Petersburg.
