This city is certainly atypical compared to the rest of the princely cities of the Golden Ring. Although Ivanovo also has an ancient history and architecture, its landscape is more in line with the Soviet heritage of the country. The city has many nicknames that all refer to its industrial past: "the Russian Manchester" because it was the site of the country's large cotton refineries, "the city of the first council" because its workers led the first strike organized by the Bolsheviks before the revolution, and finally "the city of the bride and groom" because the majority of textile workers after the Second World War were women!
