Behind its rural landscape, the village of Aleksandrov hides a rather dark history, linked to Tsar Ivan the Terrible. The place is "the royal village", because Ivan moved his capital there when he was in conflict with his boyars, taking with him his court and relics from Moscow. Once the crisis was over, Aleksandrov kept a place in the heart of the Tsar and lived there for 17 years. It was from this village that he planned his campaigns of conquest and organized the repression of his rebellious subjects; it was also here that he killed his son in a fit of rage. After Ivan's death, the town fell into oblivion.
