For a long time, the River Clwyd represented the border between Wales and England, hence the need for a fortified castle, which also gave the town its name, meaning "little fortress", although legend has it that a medieval knight, John Salusbury, came back victorious from a battle with the dragon that was terrorizing the town, shouting " Dim Dych! This pleasant medieval town offers a quiet, peaceful stroll along the ruins of the town wall and ancient gates. The tourist office, located in the main square, distributes a good map with explanations of Denbigh's history. The market takes place every Wednesday on High Street.
