Fifteen miles from Anglesey, Moelfre is a charming little fishing village with a shingle beach. You can visit it around a bend, but there's not much to see. This is the land of shipwrecks and stranded boats. An anchor near the beach is a reminder of the many men who died at sea. Because there have been shipwrecks here! One of the most famous is that of the Royal Charter , which sank in 1859 on its way from Australia to Liverpool, claiming the lives of 400 men. The result: a lot of gold at the bottom of the bay, with only 39 survivors. Many believe the treasure is still underwater.
