Another castle story... Well-preserved and surrounded by water, Beaumaris Castle is the last castle built by Edward I of England. The English king's aim was to oust the Welsh and attract his compatriots to make it an English colony. One thing's for sure: the town is a tourist magnet. No wonder: pedestrian streets, colorful cottages, quaint pubs and... the sea. Take a look at the Beaumaris Courthouse. The Beaumaris Courthouse, built in 1614, has been transformed into a museum. A courtroom has been reconstructed, showing in an educational way how a trial is organized. Beaumaris is a good base from which to explore the Isle of Anglesey. There's plenty of choice in Beaumaris for a good cup of tea and a scone! Go to Beau's Tea Room (30 Castle Street), for example, and discover this delightful tea room in a charming old house. Reasonably priced lunches. Everything is cooked with fresh produce, so don't be in too much of a hurry... Or Central Bakery (22 Margaret Street), an adorable little neighborhood bakery dating back to 1892. Don't miss the savory puff pastries and custard tarts.
