This city of 40,000 inhabitants has had a destiny similar to that of all the southern ports of the country, first as a dynamic trading center, then as a port for coal exports. It's also a city built around steel, an industry that reached its apogee in the 1960s. The name comes from that of the Talbot family, who grew rich with the development of the mining industry. The Talbot mansion was built by this family. Built in the Gothic Revival style, it is now a listed building. The castle is not open to visitors, but it is pleasant to stroll through the attractive grounds. Six hiking trails start from the visitor center.
