The Black Mountains massif is made up of several peaks, the highest in the Brecon Beacons, starting with Pen-y-Fan, an 886-meter peak south of the town of Brecon. The Black Mountains offer some of the most exhilarating walks in the south of the country, past isolated villages and churches. The most popular walks are those around Llanthony Priory, Pen Cerrig-celch, Table Mountain and Sugar Loaf, between Llanthony and the town of Abergavenny. There are a few towns in the Black Mountains worth a visit, such as Llangorse, south of Brecon, famous for its Llyn Syfaddan lake, surrounded by reeds and water lilies.
