Tintern is a small hamlet where visitors mainly come to visit the abbey ruins. Situated on the banks of the River Wye, it's also a well-known starting point for local walks. To get there by bus, take the No. 69 from Chepstow. The Devil's Pulpit is a lovely walk. The name comes from the legend that the Devil tried to seduce monks from the top of this promontory by inviting them to join him! It's a limestone pillar from the top of which you have a magnificent view of the abbey, surrounded by hills and river. It's like standing on a pedestal above the void... (5 km, 1h30).
