Very lively, with a judicious selection of good dishes! Hearty salads, fine grills, seafood... With its Art Deco ambience and banquet-style tables, this address offers an inviting setting. Enjoy lasagne, grilled salmon with hollandaise sauce... There's a fine wine list with classics and a few more "exceptional" wines, such as a Petrus. There's also a wide selection of digestifs: cognac, armagnac, calvados, liqueurs, whiskies and more. Enthusiasts are in for a treat!

ICHIBAN

Japanese restaurant €€

Behind this unremarkable front is a Japanese canteen offering fresh, light and authentic delights. Specializing in noodles and sushi, Ichiban is also famous for its "okonomiyaki", a popular Japanese savoury pancake made from cabbage and served with seafood and pickled vegetables. It is a pleasure to discover or rediscover Japanese gastronomy. Good service despite some organizational problems from time to time... Better to be a little patient, especially if there are people around.

The motto here sets the tone: we love cooking, eating and... gin! Opened in 2001, over the years it has become one of Cardiff's finest restaurants, with the particularity that it is located in... an old underground vault! Delectable cuisine, free and courageous. Enjoy basil gnocchi with red bell pepper purée, chicken supreme with gratin à la dauphinoise, half potato, half celery, and finish off with cardamom panna cotta. Wide range of gins, around thirty.

In the heart of the Welsh capital, it's the meeting place for regulars, who are delighted by the good little dishes at low cost. Discreet chic and Italian flavours. A sure thing at any time of the day. You can start with antipasti such as Parma ham, olives, bruschettas or why not cheese. We continue with pasta, pizza or a dish such as Milanese chicken, accompanied by garlic bread. Everything is prepared on site and the pizzas are cooked in a wood-fired oven.

Cardiff Castle welcomes groups and tourists to enjoy medieval evenings. You can dine as it was in the Middle Ages, surrounded by costumed musicians playing harps and other traditional instruments. For your information, the price of the menu also includes a mead tasting, 3 courses and half a bottle of wine. If you don't want to break the piggy bank but still enjoy this regal setting, you can treat yourself to afternoon tea in the small salon. The setting and atmosphere are a real change of scenery!

With almost twenty years of experience, this restaurant has earned itself a fine reputation. The menu is predominantly Latin and Brazilian, but also includes Argentinian and Spanish dishes. The Xinxim, said to be Pele's favorite dish, is delicious! It's lime chicken with crayfish and peanut sauce, served with rice and plantain. The music alternates between bossa nova and Hispanic pop. There's a good selection of cachaças. The Germana, aged for three years in oak barrels, is excellent, but beware: it's strong..

This independent Welsh bistro offers refined cuisine at reasonable prices. The menu changes frequently, preferably using local, seasonal produce. We're easily tempted by crab for starters, followed by Carmarthenshire beef with parsley purée and celery remoulade... Finish with a rhubarb and cream tart... They also offer delicious brunches and breakfasts. A real treat! The team, always smiling, welcomes you with passion and warmth. The food is up to scratch.

The famous Italian chef and businessman Giovanni Malacrino, born in Reggio Calabria, south of Naples, arrived in Wales at the age of three. After the success of his first restaurant located on The Hayes, he decided to open a new choice address in 2013, such as a small gourmet Italian embassy in the heart of Cardiff! Today, Giovanni's is a choice of pasta, risottos, pizzas and other specialities that can suit everyone: from carnivores to vegetarians. Good choice of desserts with Italian cheeses.

This is a bar-restaurant with a successful industrial decoration, in this place which spreads over several levels. A narrow terrace, similar to a footbridge, can be accessed from above the bay. On the catering side, the menu is varied. You can find all the classics of the pub but also a good choice of Welsh-inspired tapas. A place to anchor for a drink or a meal. Good choice of beers. For those who come to wake up, there is a very good choice of breakfasts at a reasonable price.

The menu also includes a selection of sandwiches and local dishes to suit all tastes and budgets, as well as a wide choice of local beers. This authentic restaurant, just a stone's throw from the National Museum, caters mainly to regulars, for both business lunches and moments of relaxation. The wood-panelled dining room offers a warm, intimate atmosphere.

MOWGLI STREET FOOD

Indian restaurant €€

If you like Indian cuisine, go there! First of all, just for the place itself: the decor is elaborate, the atmosphere cosy, full of little lights, subdued atmospheres and some chairs have been replaced by swings... It works, and we love it as soon as we sit down. As for the food, you can choose with your eyes closed - it's all excellent. The Mother Butter Chicken in particular is to die for! We even have a gluten-free and vegan menu for those who want it. £1 is added on each bill to support their association.

The Blue Bell, opposite Cardiff Castle, is the place to go for traditional Welsh cuisine. The warm atmosphere and welcoming staff make it a pleasant place where tourists and locals rub shoulders every day. Local specialities are given pride of place, and traditional dishes are revisited for the better and cooked with fresh, quality produce. Last but not least, on match nights, the atmosphere becomes euphoric in front of the screens, and it's very pleasant to have a drink with the fans.
