Restaurant with a warm and friendly atmosphere preparing Norman cuisine.

The Auberge du Mesnil Rogues restaurant opens its doors to you in a restored former presbytery, which is impressive at first sight. This establishment nestled in the green bocage is the scene of very hearty meals in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The cuisine is based on the Normandy region. The chef works according to his inspiration but also to the seasons. The fireplace lends itself to the game of grilling, the specialty of the house: tripe of course, but also ham, blood sausage with apples, we can’t count the possibilities.

Our first visit - a little off the beaten track for us despite having spent time in the area over 24 years, What a discovery. An extraordinarily good lunch in this spacious and comfortable old building with an enormous fireplace and a wood fired grill at one side of the hearth on which steaks, chops and sausages are cooked. We chose from the €37.90 menu and were amazed at the generosity of the various amuse bouches to start the meal. The deep fried king prawns were absolutely on point. The foie gras and home baked bread similarly. Starters included a wonderful steamed asparagus dish and for mains 3 of us chose the chef's recommendation; 3 pieces each of locally sourced pork, lamb and beef grilled over the wood fire. The pork chop was the best I have ever eaten, the lamb moist and full of flavour, the steak cooked exactly as requested. The salad accompaniment included thinly sliced black radish - a new one on me.
Had to follow this with creme brulée- as good as I have ever eaten. Highly recommended - but be warned - portion sizes are enormous. The Cotes du Rhône was excellent and the coffee great too. A new favourite restaurant for special occasions.
