The still active volcanic complex of Mount Aso is located in the Aso-Kuju National Park. The fifteen or so volcanic cones grouped within a colossal caldera (24 km by 18 km!) stand out from the horizon to form a captivating landscape, bordering on the lunar. Among the peaks, we find Mount Naka-dake, Eboshi-dake, Neko-dake, Taka-dake and Nishima-dake. In the middle of this complex, Naka-dake reigns supreme with its 1,506 meters high. This volcano is the most active. Thick smoke emanates permanently from its gargantuan crater. Moreover, its spectacular eruption in October 2021 made the international press. The thermal baths of the region take advantage of the benefits of the characteristics of the area.
