This spa, located in the heart of the Shikotsu-Toya National Park, is the most popular and well-known spa on Hokkaido Island. There are a dozen springs with sulphurous waters and no less than thirty hotels. It's the equivalent of Beppu in Kyūshū, which means there are many tourists and questionable overall architecture. The scenery is nonetheless beautiful. The small Noboribetsu station is on the JR Muroran train line. It takes 35 minutes to reach Toya. From Sapporo, take the Super-Hokuto in 1 hour 15 minutes. Many buses provide a direct connection to Sapporo (2 hours).
