The Kairaku-en Garden was created in 1842 by Lord Tokugawa Nariaki. It is considered one of the three most beautiful gardens in Japan. It has many lakes and more than 3,000 trees of 100 different species, covering 13 hectares. Kairaku-en means "enjoying the park together". Of course, the best time to visit is in early spring, during the cherry blossom season. The Mito Plum Festival (Mito Ume Matsuri) is held every year from mid-February to March. A real explosion of colors!
