This beautiful white mission with many Spanish style bells was founded on July 16, 1769 by Father Junípero Serra. The first of a series of 21 missions in Upper California (Alta California in Spanish), she is now known as the "Mother of the Alta California Missions" and the "First Church of California" (California's First Church). The mission is still active today as a place of religious worship.
