The land that Will Rogers purchased in the 1920s became a park open to the public after his death in 1935
After starting out in vaudeville, Will Rogers became one of the most popular and highest paid actors in Hollywood. In the 1920s, he bought land in Pacific Palisades, on which he built a 31-room house, a stable, a polo field, a golf course and horseback riding trails. After his death in 1935, his wife Betty deeded the property to the California State Parks Department, which made it a park open to the public.
