WILL ROGERS STATE HISTORIC PARK
Petit Futé's opinion on WILL ROGERS STATE HISTORIC PARK
In the early 1930 s, Will Rogers was the most popular and paid Hollywood actor. After a start in the theatre of vaudeville, he had fame throughout the world as a columnist, philosopher, radio and star of cinema. During the 1920 s, he bought those lands where he developed a property overlooking the ocean. After his death in a plane crash in 1935, the property, consisting of a house of 31 rooms, a stable, a polo field, a golf course and hiking trails, was donated to the California State Parks Department by her widow Betty in 1944.
