In this village perched at an altitude of 700 m, you will find architectural treasures along the winding streets and in the Arab quarter. A meeting point of various civilizations, the ancient Trigarium underwent a long Byzantine occupation. In the 9th century it was occupied by the Saracens, who founded two quarters that still exist today, Rabatana and Saracena. The city is distinguished by its cultural resources, stimulated by the presence of important men such as the writer Rocco Scotellaro (1923-1953), former mayor of the city, who appears in the famous painting by Carlo Levi, Lucania 61, on display at the National Museum of Medieval and Modern Art in Matera.
