A picturesque town, dominated by a cylindrical tower and the beautiful 18th century church of San Nicola, built on the bastions of the castle. The town is criss-crossed by a network of narrow streets with old houses, some of which are quite charming, such as those with 18th century porches. Next to the Piazza del Plebiscito is the interesting 13th century Cappella dell'Annunziata. Picerno is also famous for its salami and in particular for the Lucanica di Picerno IGP, a sausage produced in the town and in the neighbouring municipalities. In the surrounding area you can go on excursions to the Bosco Grande wood or to the forest of the Li Foi mountains.
