Castle housing the Archaeological Museum of Venosa.
This quadrangular castle was built in 1470 by the Duke of Venosa, Pirro del Balzo. Its cylindrical towers were used as a prison, as evidenced by the engraved inscriptions found on the walls. The basement of the castle houses the National Archaeological Museum of Venosa. It houses a wealth of material from excavations in and around the town, dating from prehistoric times to the Norman period. The focus is on the Roman settlement of Venusia.
