A picturesque town of Greek-Byzantine origin that has become a tourist center of the Vulture, Rapolla is a charming stop on the road to Potenza. Its small winding streets and its Romanesque cathedral are its strong points. The center is dotted with churches, including the Chiesa Santa Lucia dating from the Norman period. It is well preserved and has a central nave covered by two small domes. The Basilian monks who arrived in Rapolla in the 10th century also left rock sanctuaries on the hillside. Finally, people come to Rapolla for its thermal waters whose therapeutic and preventive virtues were discovered in 1909.
