Known as the "Gateway to the East" because of its location at the tip of the Adriatic Sea, Otranto still retains the characteristic atmosphere of those ancient trading towns that lined the Mediterranean. A renowned tourist destination overlooking the sea from its rocky outcrop, Otranto has a rich and eventful past and a special charm. To discover its old town center, you have to dive into its maze of alleys that lead to the ramparts overlooking the Adriatic. Its monuments recall the past grandeur of the city, and its cathedral has a floor covered with an exceptional mosaic of the twelfth century, populated with fantastic animals, mythological beings and holy images. Otranto is a fishing and yachting port that provides a link with Albania during the summer. It has a family dimension (although it is larger), favored by a beautiful seaside, with high cliffs and splendid beaches.
