Giovinazzo, about 20 km north of Bari, following the SP98 from Bitonto, is the first interesting stop on the circuit of cathedrals on the northern coast of Bari. It is home to a beautiful 12th century Romanesque building next to the port. However, the restorations of the 17th and 18th centuries have somewhat altered the appearance of this cathedral. The decoration of intersecting arches of the apse is however a rather rare element in Puglia (found only in Molfetta). A few kilometres from the town, on the SP107 towards Terlizzi, is the archaeological area of the Dolmen di San Silvestro, dated to around the 15th century BC.
