Santa Fé de Antioquia was the former capital of the department of Antioquia, before being replaced by Medellín in 1826. Founded in 1541 by Marshal Jorge Robledo, this city is a true jewel of colonial architecture, with narrow cobbled streets framed by houses with white facades and carved wooden balconies. The beautiful houses and churches are legion in Santa Fe. The tourist office provides a complete list and a map to help you find your way around this national heritage city. During the last week of the year, the Diablitos festival is held, where you can admire all the regional folklore. In August, the city celebrates the tamarind(tamarindo), a fruit from which many sweets are made.
