It's hard to resist the call of the Far North! With 4,500 inhabitants, Ivalo is a useful stopover on the way to Inari, or to Norway's North Cape. Ideal for refuelling before continuing your journey. You'll come across the famous tunturis, rounded Lappish hills devoid of vegetation. A few sparse Arctic birch forests are home to reindeer herds. From March to early May, the abundance of snow, more acceptable temperatures and often sunny days are ideal for hiking on skis, snowshoes or sledges. In summer, you can take advantage of the lakes and the vastness of the surrounding forests.
