Fiskars, 100 km southwest of Helsinki, is an ideal village to stroll through and discover beautiful buildings that have been converted into shops or workshops. The village was founded in 1649 by the Dutchman Peter Thorwöste, who built blast furnaces here. Fiskars then gave birth to the group that manufactures the famous orange scissors that may be lying around in your kitchen. The village is now home to a large community of craftsmen and artists who give the town an amazing creative energy. Shops, museums and workshops follow one another in old red brick buildings, in the heart of a generous nature that can inspire the most insensitive. Old mills, old forges, and a small river interspersed with pretty white wooden bridges... are ideal for walks or bike rides. The whole village is worth a visit with its museums and art galleries (design, paintings, graphic arts, clothing, glasswork, architecture, jewellery, ceramics...). The best way to discover Fiskars is to walk in the village along the river.
