218 000 inhabitants. On the border of Galicia, Podolie and Kermanych, the city itself is no special interest, but it can be a good starting point for the Carpathians. It can also give the opportunity to visit very famous holy places in Ukraine, such as the Pochaiv Monastery. Founded in 1540, Ternopil has remained the property of many noble families for many years. It was only in 1843 that the city regained its freedom to soon become the centre of the Podillya region. Its economic rise continued until the First World War, during which many of its businesses and museums were destroyed. The time to rebuild everything, the war struck again. The city was only ruins after the Second World War, which explains the few monuments to visit.
