The finest Ottoman building in the Vlora region. Dating from 1542, it was built in honor of Sultan Murad II.
This small but elegant mosque (Xhamia e Muradies) was erected in 1542 by order of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent as a tribute to his predecessor Murad II. Local opinion has it that it was designed by Mimar Sinan (circa 1488-1588), the greatest architect of the Ottoman Empire. The building is topped by a 10 m-high dome covered with round tiles and mounted on a twelve-sided drum. It is flanked on the west side by an 18 m-high carved stone minaret. The interior has lost its painted decoration, except for the mihrab.
