Long, deep gorges offering splendid scenery at an altitude of 300 to 450 m above sea level.
These gorges (Grykat e Osumit) are the longest and deepest in Albania. The Osum river (Lumi i Osumit) offers here splendid landscapes at an altitude varying from 300 to 450 m above sea level. Its source is south of Korça, near Greece. After a journey of 161 km, it joins the river Devoll near Kuçova (17 km north of Berat) to form the river Seman, which flows into the Adriatic south of the Divjaka-Karavasta National Park. But before that, the Osum river runs here for 13 km between Lapanj, in the south, and Çorovoda, crossing wooded hills and karst cliffs dug by erosion 2-3 million years ago that reach up to 80 m high. With a width varying from 4 to 35 m, the gorges are sometimes visible from the road. This is the case in two places in particular: on the bridge in the village of Blezëncka (8.8 km south of Çorovoda) and right next to the Kanioneve campsite (4.4 km south of Çorovoda), where a platform offers an exceptional view of the most impressive part of the gorge. You can also enjoy other viewpoints by taking the paths, for example from the village of Çerenisht (3 km south of Çorovoda). The last way to discover the Osum Gorge is by rafting. Considering the variable level of competence of the agencies offering this activity, we only recommend Albania Rafting, in Berat. It is by far the most professional and the safest in terms of safety.
