The archaeological site of Byllis (Bylisi in Albanian, pronounced "Bulisi") is located near the small town of Ballsh (9,000 inhabitants). Byllis was the largest Illyrian city in the south-western part of today's Albania. Discovered in the 19th century and left unattended for years, this vast 30-hectare site is now an archaeological park managed by the Ministry of Culture. But the place remains little frequented by tourists, as it is difficult to access.
Let's go. The route is easy from Fier (Levan-Tepelena fast road) and the site is signposted about 8 km south of Ballsh ( Ancient City of Bylis), but the last few kilometres of road are not in very good condition (4 x 4 recommended) No direct bus connection.
