Skagway became famous one year after the discovery of gold in Canada, thanks to the White Pass trail that linked the two states. It allowed the passage of many prospectors through the snow with a year's supply of food, a requirement for crossing the border. This was followed by the appearance of the railroad linking Skagway to Canada.Today, the town has about 920 inhabitants and lives only from tourism thanks to the regular stops of the cruise ships. Located at the end of Lynn Canal, the longest fjord in North America, the town is teeming with tourists some days and becomes almost ghostly others. The charm of this small port, which can be visited on foot, lies mainly in its history. Skagway was the main gateway to the Klondike gold mining region in Canada during the gold rush of 1897. The tour of the town will focus on the Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park and various gold rush sites, including the famous Chilkoot Trail and White Pass, the two access roads to El Dorado.
