140 km from Tacuarembó, the village is located on Route 43, at kilometer 55. Once inland, one can admire the vast expanse of the surrounding countryside and follow the Negro River to an artificial lake created by a dam. What makes this village unique are its colorful walls decorated with drawings, paintings and poems made in 1993 by about 30 artists from all over the world. Among the famous painters who left their mark are Gustavo Alamón, Dumas Oroño and Enersto Aroztegui. Today, San Gregorio de Polanco is a sort of open-air visual arts museum.
