This small town of 9,500 inhabitants has no real tourist interest. It is possible to stop by, but it is not really necessary to spend the night there, given the proximity of Colonia and other more pleasant seaside resorts. Its origins date back to the arrival of Bishop Manuel Antonio de la Torre in 1772. Seeing the spiritual void that had taken over the area, he decided to build a chapel. Under his impetus, the city was created on January 24, 1775 under the name of Nuestra Señora del Rosario. The Rosario River was the communication route used by the Swiss and Piedmontese settlers who came to the region.
