Punta the radiant, the eccentric, the superficial... Punta queen of the jet-set(farándula in Spanish)... Punta is a city where you must have been, or rather have been seen. It is the favorite vacation spot of rich Argentine and Brazilian families. Its tourist and even urban development is however relatively recent. The city is a real magnet, attracting the Argentinean wealthy class that makes it not only a resort, but also a very stable investment area compared to the feverish Buenos Aires.Since the mid-1960s, Punta has become the place to be, a city for the Argentine happy few who like to show off in luxurious places. With more than a hundred hotels and as many restaurants, there is room for everyone! And yet, this is not the impression one gets at the time of the tourist peak (the carnival in February). Its rambla is a pleasant place to stroll at sunset, a time when the peninsula enjoys a romantic atmosphere. But like Cancun in Mexico, Punta also has a forest of modern and ugly high-rise buildings that disfigure its center and its seaside. With the 2x2 lanes in front of the rambla separating the beach from the buildings, we are far from the standard of the chic French seaside resort! Here, the atmosphere is rather "bling bling", which is reminiscent of Miami for the posh places. In addition, some of the buildings in the area are aging very badly. For the last ten years, Punta has been abandoned by the jet-set who prefers Barra or even the refinement and exclusivity of José Ignacio and Garzón, rather than the popular, overcrowded and vertical atmosphere of Punta. Times are changing...The best time to visit is, of course, before or after Carnival, unless you like crowds (and fiesta)! Out of the tourist season the prices are much more reasonable. During the high season, they go up to infinity.
