This building dates back to 1920 and for a number of years remained the tallest building in Japan at 70 meters in height. Parliamentary sessions are held here: in the south wing, those of the House of Representatives and in the north wing, those of the House of Councillors. Its main façade symbolically faces the imperial palace, whose moat and Sakurada-mon Gate it embraces. The library has more than three million books. Located in the heart of Nagata-chō, the building is close to the Prime Minister's residence.
