The former world's largest fish market still abounds with restaurants and bars serving the freshest sushi.
While the Tsukiji wholesale market - including its main halls and bluefin tuna auction - is now closed, the outdoor market (jōgai shijō) remains open to tourists and locals alike, who can stock up on fresh fish and all the utensils needed to prepare it. Nice for the atmosphere, in contrast to Ginza, and for the good little restaurants, but if you've got the time, also head to Toyosu to discover the new, huge market. This is where the fish for today's Tsukiji comes from.
