This small village with a long mining past has been asleep since the end of tin mining in 1990. Today, it clings to tourism. A tourist office, a supermarket, a petrol station, a few hotels and restaurants are trying to hold back the few visitors who pass by mainly to get supplies before continuing on to the Brandberg and discovering elephants adapted to the desert. A place where time seems to have stood still and which proves the dependence and fragility of these Namibian rural areas, which are heavily dependent on ephemeral extractive activity (mines are generally not exploited for more than twenty-five years)
