210 km from Swakopmund, at the Ugab River bed, begins the Skeleton Coast Park with the southern entrance Ugabmund (mouth of the Ugab). The border between ocean and dunes is marked only by a wide strip of white sand, on which comes to roll the foam. It is the bed of the track that unfolds, endless, to the horizon. Above the ocean, the black wings of the Cape cormorants are spread out, and on its agitated surface, a frozen wreck appears here and there. On the side of the desert, immense stretches of sand, sometimes strewn with white bones, store up the heat. In the blur of the vibrating light, the plateaus of gneiss and granite veined with white quartz and riddled with pink feldspar seem to tremble. Only the southern part of the park, the least impressive, is open to the public. So if the exclusive part is by far the most interesting, why go to this park? This question is quite justified and the answer is simple: fishing, again and again! Indeed, this southern section of the park is mostly frequented by fishermen. However, a hike in the Ugab riverbed or simply crossing the park via the C39 to the heart of Damaraland may justify a visit.
