Coming from Maltahöhe, the most beautiful road passes through the C19 bordering the Tsaris Mountains (1,900 m), then the D827 before joining the C27 (entrance point of the reserve) by which one will arrive coming from Helmeringhausen and the southern farms or from Duwisib Castle. The now famous Namib Rand Nature Reserve borders and extends the NamibNaukluft Park with its 140,000 ha. It is one of the largest private reserves in southern Africa. Home to botanical species endemic to the Namib Desert, Namib Rand is also home to a rich bird population (more than 120 species have been recorded, including ostriches, Ludwig's and Rüppell's bustards, dune larks, republicans, glass eagles, white-eyed elanions, kestrels...). Among the mammals, one can observe herds of oryx, springboks as well as mountain zebras, Cape foxes, otocyons, proteles and other predators. The picture would not be complete without mentioning other smaller species such as the web-footed gecko, the striking viper, the golden mole, the gerbil and the ground squirrel... and the insects that are incredibly well adapted to desert conditions. This reserve offers a complete Namib experience, comparable to its small neighbor, the no less famous Kulala Reserve managed by Wilderness Safaris. Both reserves have similar landscapes. Unfortunately, these two reserves are not accessible to everyone.
