Tamentfoust is an ancient city whose origins will yield to Phoenician notorious. She would have called Rusguniae before becoming Rusgunia, Roman colony under Augustus around 30 BC.The remains of the ancient city are rare. Some, a mosaic from the Basilica, are exhibited at the Antiques Museum in Algiers. The city is baptized La Pérouse by the French and then again Redevient, whose name comes from the Berber Berber n t which means "right side". Tamentfoust forms Cape Matifou, which is often possible from the heights of Algiers.
